Maine State Police are trying to locate a man they call a 'violent felon,' who has disappeared and who may be armed.

William Gagnon, 40, was last known to be living in Liberty but police say it's possible he may have recently moved out of the area. Gagnon is on probation as a violent felon and is a suspect in some recent burglaries and thefts in the Liberty area. Liberty is in Waldo County and is located a little less than 20 miles west of Belfast.

Police are concerned because it appears that Gagnon has absconded from his probation. He has an active warrant for his arrest and is currently being sought by police. Officials say the last time he was seen, he was with a female. It's possible he could be driving a 2000 maroon Dodge Ram or a U-Haul pickup truck.

Gagnon is considered a violent felon and police say he may be armed with a firearm, so while residents are asked to keep their eyes open for any sign of him, police caution that if you do see him, don't approach him. Instead, call 911 or contact the Augusta Regional Communication Center at 207-624-7076.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
